HS BAND
January 5-12 we are working on both our spring concert songs as well as our contest pieces.
Dear Parent of Band and Choir Students,
Welcome back to another year in music at DLB! I am excited to see what this year will bring and hear the music this group will make. This is NOT a trip year but we will do some fundraising this year. I hope to continue our new traditions with our marching band and hope to have the choir out in the community more this year! I look forward to getting down to music when money is not our first priority!
Some fundraisers we WILL be doing this year are FanCloth, Christmas wreaths, and jerky sales. I hope that is all we do this year. What I need from the students is a commitment to work VERY hard on each and every fundraiser that comes up this year. If we raise a little each year we wont have as much work to do the year we travel. We look to travel two years from this spring.
Thanks in advance for your help and support of the DLB music program.
Sincerely,
Tyler Heser
Grading for High School band. This is a class that does not have homework. While it is important that students practice on their own it is not a part of their grade. Band is a group activity therefore it is important that students be in class and participate to the best of their ability. This idea is how I have based my grading. Grades will come from three aspects of the class:
1. Daily participation - If a student is in class and is participating they will receive 5 points for that day. The only way a student will lose points is to not be present or not participate. If a student is losing points due to behavior they will be notified, in class, and given the opportunity to fix their behavior.
2. Also, we have performances. Each performance will be worth 25 points or the same as one week of class. As a college choir director told me once in regards to people being at rehearsals and performances, "It is not that you know YOUR part, but that you understand what YOU are a part of." That is true for all performances and rehearsals in this group as well.
I will keep the grades up to date so that students and parents can see if they are lacking so that they might improve.
